There are a lot of places where you can buy or adopt Parrots but they are not all equal, and it can be a challenge to find what you’re looking for. We encourage experienced Parrot guardians to consider adopting from a registered rescue. There are thousands of Parrots waiting for a new home. Most of these Parrots have come from loving families that have had to make a difficult decision possible for medical reason, financial or a major life change, such as retirement to a care home.  Most of these rescues post the Parrots available for adoption on Petfinders.  

For the inexperienced, or anyone who has something specific in mind, breeders can have detailed and useful information about the species they breed. They should offer a warranty period where the Parrot can be returned if a vet determines it to be in poor health.
