Bailey was the beloved pet of a young woman who tragically passed away during the pandemic. Bailey's bereaved family could not care for him and has asked that he remain with us in honour of her memory while they grieve the loss of their daughter.

Bonnie is a lively lady. She loves to shred paper and many textures in toys. Her current favourite foot toy is a plastic orange carabiner! Bonnie lost her home when her family separated. She has a long history of pulling out the feathers on her chest. She experienced a lot of stress under a lengthy home renovation and would say, "you're ok," when sounds frightened her.

Bowie came from a home where he spent the first formative years of his life alone in a dimly lit room with nothing to do or see. His environment was filthy and baren. He only had his leg band ring to tap to entertain himself. However, he is slowly learning to engage in new healthy activities to entertain himself, bravely eating fresh foods and playing with foraging toys. One of his favourite ways of engaging with people is hanging upside down and grooming their hair. He's come so far, and we are proud of this awesome guy!

Freddie came to live at the parrot sanctuary when her loving family became too elderly to care for her. She is 45 years old, loves to laugh at our team, and greets visitors with a cheerful "Hello!". Freddie has a big personality! She will gladly sing along to any music and does her best to sound like an opera singer. This lovely birdie never judges a human singer but loves to upstage them! She likes to say a long "byyyyye-bye" on our way out.

Greenie was rescued from a crummy situation by a lovely family. Once safely out of danger, the couple felt she would have her needs met by someone who understood how to give her the care and rehab she required. As a result, we are working carefully with her to manage her stress, feather-destructive behaviour, and reproductive health issues. She is a curious bird and is highly food-motivated. One of her favourite things is having a nap in the afternoon sun high up in her jungle gym.

Kiko is a quirky girl who loves to hang out; she will play with people's hair if they turn their back on her; she loves being up high and watching people on the street. There is a school close to the Sanctuary, and she makes sweet sounds when the kiddo's walk by. She mastered a great foot wave to greet people. New visitors often ask -is that parrot waving at me? She never ceases to amaze people!

Lady Galah once lived in darkness with her only parrot friend Katy. Unfortunately, Katy lost her life a few months after seeing sunlight again. Years spent confined in filth. Raccoons, along with other creatures, all lived under the same roof. Lady Galah's friend died infected from being in contact with raccoon feces in their home. In honour of her friend Katy, Lady Galah will live her best life free from the horror she survived.

Merlin came to the parrot sanctuary after her person was hospitalized and received ongoing care for severe health challenges. When her best friend was in the hospital, Merlin spent much time alone. During this time, she resorted to harming herself. Unfortunately, the repetitive nature of her self-inflicted harm has also created a wound to her chest, which means she requires ongoing medical attention and expert care.

Olive is an almost 40-year-old wild-caught Patagonia Conure who is losing her eyesight. She has had countless homes in her long life. Yet, somehow she has maintained a cheery disposition despite her wobbly mobility and age-related challenges. Tiny Tim, her companion Senegal Parrot, and superhero helps her to navigate her cage and find her way around. Their relationship is simply heartwarming.

Plato is a confident and outgoing kind of guy! He's funny and loves an audience. Unfortunately, his caregiver developed severe respiratory challenges and had to make the difficult decision of letting him go. As a super social bird from a loving, happy home, he is now one of the parrot sanctuary ambassador parrots. Plato enjoys doing community outreach to teach people about parrot care and conservation. He loves to show off his quirks and perfectly imitates a washing machine!

Quincy is quite the character. She came to the Parrot Sanctuary when her family experienced extreme personal hardship. Quincy was a beloved companion. Unfortunately, Quincy became feather destructive after losing her human best friend. We are working with her to manage her anxiety and learn fun alternatives to occupy her mind and beak to give her feathers a chance to grow back. Quincy loves to tell our team "good job" when they are cleaning!

Sequoia is one of the resident ambassador Parrots at the Sanctuary. He loves to show people how pretty his wings are in exchange for a walnut! Visitors are always impressed at how easily he cracks wide-open walnut shells. He is a gentle giant that displays clear and significant body language when he wants his personal space. In Sequoias owners will, she asked that he live in a sanctuary with other feathered friends for the rest of his life.
