Things to keep in mind when seeking a natural perch for your Parrot. 

The holiday season is filled with many things that can that can be harmful to your Parrot. Even the hustle and bustle with family, friends, the blinking decorations or plates of food can add stress or harm your Parrots. Keeping them happy and safe is always a top priority. Here are some things to be careful about while you celebrate the festivities.

Natural sunlight is one of the three natural elements necessary for life.  We all provide our Parrots with fresh water, clean air and a few hours of natural sunlight every day, right? 

Parrots just can’t get enough millet and their people are rationing it out.  That’s why we nickname millet “Birdie Crack”.  But once you read on you will not feel so terrible when your Parrot over indulges now and again.

A quarantine period is the perfect time to do a New Bird Exam with your local Avian Veterinarian. 

Lately we have heard more and more people telling us they use one of several different types of cat litter for the bottom of their Parrots’ cages.  Here are the reasons why this is dangerous.

Do you remember learning in school about the use of canaries in coal mines to detect gas and save the miners from the silent death of methane or carbon monoxide poisoning?  The lungs of Canaries, like all birds, are so fragile that they would die very quickly when exposed to the gas and their death served as a warning to the miners to evacuate.

Today, our bees are giving us a similar warning, but is anyone listening?  Can the same toxins that are killing bees do harm to our Parrots? 

What's in your Water?

For you and your Parrot, water is the most important thing that is consumed, its intake is crucial to survival. 

This is the time of year when we get plenty of questions about traveling with Parrots.  Whatever your mode of travel and days away from home being prepared will help make the trip more fun for all.  

Zinc is an extremely important nutrient in your Parrots diet, however; in high enough quantities in the blood, zinc can cause what is known as Zinc Poisoning.
