We recommend that you read the "bible" Don't Shoot the Dog to obtain the general concepts of clicker training which applies to all animals then Clicker Training for Birds to get the specific methods of training behaviours with our companion Parrots.
Here's an example of incorrectly using a clicker: A new customer was asked, "do you train your Parrot?" "Oh yes, I use a clicker." was the reply. "That's wonderful, what behaviours have you trained?" I asked. "Oh I trained one click to come and two clicks to return to the cage." This is an example of using the clicker as a cue rather than the secondary reinforcer and it will be very difficult to then use the clicker to train additional behaviours.
When training please be aware that it is more difficult to UNtrain behaviour. Taking the time to fully understand the concept of clicker training and the principals of behaviour is most important for success. So many of us have unknowingly trained our Parrots and with patience we can UNtrain the less desirable behaviours.
