There are 55 different subspecies of Conures. The Green Cheeks, belonging to the Pyrrhura geniuses, are a bit quieter than the Aratinga and Nandayus.
Green Cheek Conures are high-energy Parrots and I don't recommend them to most people. They will be bouncing around one minute then cuddling up into your neck the next. They love to be on the shoulder and as a result, learn to bite for attention. Anyone with a young Conure should read our blog on Communicating with Your Parrot. I got my little Green Cheek over 23 years ago, long before I knew anything about Parrot's behaviour. So needless to say I fell into that trap and now wear a small baby blanket around my neck to avoid the nips.
There are many different mutated Green Cheek Conures. What I hear from most of our customers is that their behaviour, (ie they are much calmer and quieter than the normal Green Cheek) play and toy preference is much different. This may be why they are the most popular Parrot after the Budgie.
Aside from this, the normal Green Cheek Conures are easy to please. They love bells, balsa, and shreddable toys. Birdie Bagels are always a hit and there are so many different bagel toys to choose from. My Conure has had the Bell Star Deluxe for most of his 23 years and rings it to get my attention. The Lotsa Balsa was designed just for him.
