A Parrot's cage is its home. It's where they eat, sleep, and play for much of the day.  So naturally, the cage needs to be suited to the species of Parrot, and the size of the cage tends to be bigger for a bigger Parrot. There is one exception: the Flight Cage.  It has 1/2" bar spacing with skinny bars, like many cages for small Parrots, but its width, depth, and inside height are nearly equal to a cage intended for an African Grey or Amazon Parrot.  And this makes it the best cage for the smallest Parrots.

If you have ever researched cages for small Parrots, especially Parrotlets, you'll see forum users raving about their flight cages.  The most popular thing about the flight cage isn't just that it's big, but that it's wide: a small Parrot can easily fly inside it for exercise.  This is key because small Parrots tend to have a lot more energy for their size than their larger cousins.  Flight cages can also be filled with toys and still have plenty of room for their occupants to climb and fly around.

The design is also very simple.  You won't find ornate curlicues or fancy playtop attachments on a flight cage.  In fact, it doesn't even have mess catchers sticking out from the sides, or separate doors for changing food and water bowls.  There are two advantages here: first, it's extremely easy to clean.  There are no nooks and crannies for food bits or droppings to get stuck.  The second is that it's much lower priced than many other cages, including several that are more complex but smaller.  It also includes a storage shelf on the stand, convenient for holding a toy box, supply of newspapers, bags of food or a travel carrier for quick access in emergencies.

Chico, a Fischer's Lovebird, enjoys lots of extra space in his flight cage.

When all of these factors come together, you have a large cage ideal for small Parrots, that will last a long time and allow you to provide creative and entertaining layouts for your pet.  The flat top is an invitation to create a playtop out of branches and ropes; the lack of fixed food and water dishes is an opportunity to turn the whole cage into a foraging adventure sure to keep your tiny tot busy all day.
